The UAE has announced the dates for the Eid Al Adha holiday for private sector employees. The holiday will start on Saturday, June 15, and end on Tuesday, June 18.
One paid holiday is given for Arafah Day, the holiest day in Islam, which is on Dhul Hijjah 9 in the Islamic calendar. This corresponds to Saturday, June 15, in the Gregorian calendar.
There are three additional days off for Eid Al Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, which falls on Dhul Hijjah 10 to 12. In the Gregorian calendar, this is from June 16 to 18. Public sector employees will also have their holiday on these same dates.
The new Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah 1445 was confirmed when the crescent moon was seen in Abu Dhabi on Friday, June 7. Saudi Arabia also saw the crescent moon on June 7, starting the month of Dhul Hijjah on that day. For Saudi Arabia, Eid Al Adha will begin on June 16.
In other countries, such as Oman, India, and Pakistan, the first day of Eid Al Adha will be on June 17, based on their moon sightings.
